On Tuesdays, my classes usually run straight from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
To put it simply, it’s a long day.
That’s why I was extra excited to get an email last night saying my last class was cancelled. Instead, I was d-o-n-e just after 2 o’clock — And it couldn’t have come at a better time, because this Tuesday was a little special: It’s our anniversary!
But, even anniversaries have to start off with breakfast. Might as well make it special!
I was near the bottom of my jar of sunflower seed butter and although I’m sad to see it go, at least it went out with a “bang!”
Or with a lot of oatmeal and granola. (Potato, pot-tat-o)
For my running class we took to the hills for some serious sprints. At one point, there was even a group of construction workers cheering us on. Talk about motivation…
Fast forwarding through “serious” classes, I met up with Dan to have lunch at his scholarship hall.
I had to walk back up the hill for one last class (what’s up with these hills?). Then I was free — Free to spend time with Dan!
When we met back up, we realized we were both tired, so we decided to take a “short nap,” which actually turned into a two-hour nap. So, I’ll be up for a while tonight…
When we finally did wake up, we had to get going on our plans for the afternoon. First up, we went out to Clinton Lake for a bike ride and hike up to Sanders Mound.
We sat around for a while reflecting on the past year…
Plus, the memories came back pretty quickly, considering that it was right at *this spot* by the tree that he first asked me out.
Such a good memory. Such a great year.
I haven’t really talked about when Dan and I started dating too much, because we’ve been together for as long as I’ve been writing the blog. So, it might surprise some people that we have “only” been dating for one year.
Sometimes this even surprises me. I feel like I have known Dan forever. We know what each other is thinking before we even speak. And, when we do speak, we often finish each others’ sentences.
He makes me laugh. He comforts me when I cry. He supports me through ups and downs…
I almost cringe to say it — for what a cliché it is — but what we have seems truly special. I love him and I look forward to spending the rest of my life with him.
365 days down. An uncountable number left to go.
Back to present time. After cleaning up, we went to dinner at El Mezcal, where we went on our first date.
Lots of chips were consumed…
I went with a vegetarian fajita for my entrée, but I ended up just picking at it. This was partially due to the fact that I had eaten my weight in chips, but also because the fajita was a little “off.”
Nothing that some frozen custard can’t fix…
I got a mini concrete with peanut butter and bananas — I think it turned out better than my first intention to order peanut butter and almonds.
Dan and I took the treats to go and went up to Wells Overlook to take in the fading moments of the sunset and then watch the stars appear. I remember thinking how cool it was when I was in Germany that we were both looking up at the same sky. Still, it’s a lot better to be looking up at it when he is by my side rather than a few thousand miles away.
Questions: How do you like to celebrate anniversaries?
Although we didn’t exchange gifts, it was just so nice to spend time together.
